Message from the President: Staying Steady in Uncertain Times
Cambridge is home to a hugely diverse population. Some residents are born here, and many others come from all over the country and around the globe to study, to work, or to join family. Between climate change, new forms of AI, and an uncharted political landscape, we are all are experiencing a higher degree of uncertainty than usual in our daily lives. For those born outside the U.S., those uncertainties may be heightened.
For our students, 90% of whom are immigrants, it is more important than ever that the Community Learning Center is there as a steady, welcoming presence. The students themselves, with admirable grit, continue to come to class in the face of mounting challenges. Our remarkable teachers, staff, and volunteers show up every day to make sure that the students can continue to progress toward their educational goals. Our advisors continue to work their magic at smoothing obstacles from the students’ paths. And the entire administration has undergone Know Your Rights training to ensure that students’ rights to pursue their education is protected to the fullest extent of the law.
What can you do to help? Here are three concrete actions you can take:
Spread awareness of the amazing work that the CLC does by sharing this newsletter, or guiding someone to our website, or bringing a friend to our inspiring graduation ceremony.
Get involved by volunteering as a tutor, a classroom aide, or a Board member.
Donate to the Friends of CLC to help provide a consistent, reliable source of funds for classes, scholarships, supplies, or student emergencies.
With these small but significant steps, you can help bring stability to the lives of our highly deserving students, at a time when they need it more than ever. Thank you, as always, for your support.
