Raise a Glass for Learning: Friends of the CLC Fundraiser

On June 5, 2025, Friends of the Cambridge Community Learning Center (CLC) were thrilled to host Raise a Glass for Learning, an evening celebrating the work of the CLC and fostering connection at EF Education First Headquarters in Cambridge. The fundraiser brought together city leaders, CLC students, educators, and supporters to celebrate the transformative power of adult education.

It was a lively gathering full of meaningful conversations, as guests enjoyed meeting each other while enjoying snacks and drinks. Throughout the night, attendees took pictures at the CLC-themed photobooth and participated in trivia, learning more about its history, students, and programs.

The program began with welcoming remarks from Holly Klose, Vice President of the Friends of CLC Board, who acknowledged special guests including Vice Mayor Marc McGovern, city officials, and CLC Board members. Phyllis Benjamin, President of Friends of the CLC, shared how the organization’s fundraising efforts provide critical support for scholarships, programs, and student success.

Maria Kefallinou, Director of the CLC, offered an overview of the center’s programs—from High School Equivalency (HSE) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Early Childhood Educator training, as well as the Bridge Program that prepares adult learners for college and careers.

The evening’s keynote speaker, Vice Mayor Marc McGovern, reflected on the importance of adult education and community partnerships in strengthening Cambridge. His remarks were followed by a moving story from Ruth Marly Saint-Cyr, a CLC student and Bridge Program graduate, who shared her personal journey of perseverance and achievement.

The event highlighted the incredible impact of the CLC and the ongoing commitment of Friends of CLC to ensure that every adult learner has the opportunity to succeed. The Friends are grateful for everyone who came out to lift up the work of the CLC and honor the tremendous accomplishments of CLC students. We look forward to next year’s event!
