Welcoming Wendy Li, New Board Member
Our newest board member Wendy Li brings a strong background in accounting and a deep belief in the power of education to change lives. After graduating from college in China, she began her professional career working as an auditor and public accountant. Since immigrating to the United States, Wendy has continued working in the field, including supporting a number of nonprofit organizations as clients.
Through that work, Wendy became increasingly interested in the nonprofit sector and the role that boards play in guiding organizations. While she often attends board meetings to explain financial reports to members without accounting backgrounds, she wanted to better understand the work from the inside and contribute her own expertise.
Wendy’s experience in accounting makes her particularly well suited to support the board’s financial oversight. She hopes to help strengthen financial transparency and ensure board members have the information they need to make thoughtful decisions. Wendy was also drawn to the CLC’s mission of supporting immigrants and expanding access to education as someone who pursued adult education opportunities, eventually passing the CPA exams and building her professional career. “I believe education can improve people’s lives,” she said. “I’m a beneficiary of that myself.”
Looking ahead, Wendy hopes to contribute not only through financial guidance but also by helping the organization grow its fundraising efforts and expand community engagement. She is especially interested in ideas that bring people together and showcase the diverse cultures represented in the CLC community, and hopes to help build opportunities that allow the Board and community to come together. We are grateful to have Wendy’s expertise, perspective, and enthusiasm on the board.
