Welcoming New Board Member, Charles Dutton

Charlie Dutton found out about the Community Learning Center from his work colleague and friend Louis NeJame, who was the President of the Friends of the Community Learning Center.  They have both done education-related consulting, and Charlie wanted to “get closer to where things are actually happening.”

Charlie grew up outside Oklahoma City and went to college in Texas and Oklahoma.  So how did he end up on the East Coast in Boston?  First, he has always been interested in seeing other places and learning something new, and his Oklahoma-based father has long been a fan of the city!  In addition, his mom loves to ski, not a big activity in Oklahoma, so they have always traveled to a ski area every year.  When presented with the opportunity for a job in Boston, Charlie jumped in.

A bookworm AND a sports enthusiast, Charlie played college football and majored in philosophy, with some economics and business courses thrown in (in addition to being fascinated by logic and neuroscience, he wanted to be able to get a job).

One of Charlie’s best experiences was working in Bangalore, India, for a year.  He also had the chance to travel to the beautiful beaches in South Asia and to Nepal, Thailand, and Malaysia. He was recently able to return to India for the wedding of two of his close friends and had a great time visiting again.

As part of the CLC Friends, Charlie is working closely with our Treasurer Silvia Ajanel and the entire Board in looking for ways to improve financial and operational processes. He’s looking forward to attending a CLC class to get a first-hand experience of what goes on.  We welcome Charlie’s enthusiasm and expertise!
