Stories from the Student Success Fund

The Student Success Fund, launched this year, has had an immediate impact on students’ lives. Here is one example:

Maria Gorete Veader, a 2021 graduate of the Bridge to College program, is currently working towards her associate degree in Medical Information Management at Bunker Hill Community College. In the spring of 2021, Gorete received a $1,000 scholarship from the Friends. As a result of the Friends' increased funding capacity last year, Gorete was awarded a $2,000 scholarship in the spring of 2022. In her words:
[The increase] made a big difference. I can finish my courses faster. . . . If I didn’t take the money, I don’t know if I could manage because my daughter is also in college.
